The Ice Pigeon is a breed of fancy pigeon developed over many years of selective breeding. Ice Pigeons, along with other varieties of domesticated pigeons, are all descendants from the Rock Pigeon (Columba livia).

The breed is known and named for its ice blue colour. In all markings the ground color should be pure ice blue, as light and soft as possible, so light as to appear almost white. They must resemble the color of ice from pure clear water. The entire body is provided with a layer of white powder. Each bird produces this powder in varying amounts.

If a healthy, well cared for Ice Pigeon is held for a short length of time, especially against a black coat or jacket, one will look as if they have paid a visit to a miller. No part of the body should show any other color tone except for the flights and the tail bar, which should be as dark as possible, approaching black.

There also must be a band of ground color beyond the dark tail bar. The wedge under the tail should also exhibit the same color as the remainder of the bird. Wedge feathers must be present for the judge to view.

The Ice Pigeons comes in spangled, barred, and barless patterns. One of the "color pigeons", the Ice Pigeon is remarkable in its coloration. Its ground color is supposed to resemble the hue of ice, hence its name.

It is also notable in that the plumage around the head and neck is the same hue as that of the rest of the body, which is very unusual in pigeons, where the head and neck are almost always a darker shade than the feathers on the breast, which in turn are usually darker than the wingshield. Not so in the Ice Pigeon, where, except for the wing and tail markings, the pigeon is of a uniform color throughout.

The genetics of the white-barred and white-checkered varieties of Ice Pigeons are quite complicated, involving the genes for toy stencil and what are apparently multiple genes for the ice blue color. There are also black-barred and black-checkered Ice Pigeons, where the toy stencil factor is apparently not involved.
